So how is your pension calculated?  It starts with an average of the three highest years of your base salary.  Typically, this will span the last three years prior to retiring, but not always.

Once you have the average of your high three, then you’ll need to calculate that number against a percentage benefit amount based on the number of years of service, as well as which retirement system you fall under:
